Terms and Policies

By accessing, browsing, or using Annlex.com, you agree to the following terms:

1. We are not your lawyers

IMPORTANT: Annlex.com is not intended to be or to provide legal advice. Any information supplied by Annlex.com or its operators is intended solely as general guidance on the use of the service, and does not constitute professional or legal advice.

This is an experimental research tool. You should contact a licensed attorney to obtain advice with respect to any particular legal matter.

2. The service may be unreliable and might simply go away

Annlex.com and its operators shall not be responsible for any delays or interruptions of, or errors or omissions contained in, the service. Annlex.com may discontinue or alter any aspect of this service, including, but not limited to: (i) restricting the time of availability, (ii) restricting the availability and/or scope of the service, (iii) restricting the amount of use permitted, at Annlex.com's sole discretion and without prior notice or liability.

3. AI-generated analysis may be incomplete or incorrect

This service uses artificial intelligence (Claude by Anthropic) to analyze legal documents. AI-generated responses may:

  • Misinterpret legal precedents or doctrines
  • Miss relevant cases or cite inappropriate authorities
  • Generate responses that do not reflect current law
  • Produce incomplete, misleading, or factually incorrect analysis
  • Fail to identify controlling authority in your jurisdiction

You acknowledge that any reliance on AI-generated information or other material communicated through, or posted to, the service will be at your own risk. Always verify information independently and consult primary legal sources.

4. The documents on this site may be unreliably reproduced

Annlex.com makes no representations, warranties or covenants regarding, and does not guarantee, the truthfulness, accuracy, relevancy, or reliability of any information or other material that are communicated through, or posted to, the service. Case text and metadata are derived from third-party sources and may contain errors, omissions, or formatting issues.

5. Data sources and attribution

This platform uses publicly available legal data from:

AI analysis is powered by Anthropic's Claude. Semantic search uses ModernBERT embeddings fine-tuned for legal text by the Free Law Project.

6. Usage restrictions

You will not use, intentionally or unintentionally, Annlex.com or any information derived therefrom in violation of any applicable international, national, federal, state, or local law. You understand that Annlex.com is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ("FCRA") and therefore you agree that you will not use Annlex.com and any information derived therefrom:

  • As a factor in establishing an individual's eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, government benefits, housing, or any other FCRA purpose as specified in 15 U.S.C. § 1681b(a)
  • To generate a "consumer report" as that term is defined under FCRA, 15 U.S.C. § 1681a(d)
  • In any manner that could result in Annlex.com becoming subject to FCRA

You are prohibited from using the Service and any information derived therefrom in any unauthorized manner and in furtherance of criminal or illegal activities.

7. Payment terms

OVERVIEW: Annlex offers free queries for new users, one-time credit packs, and monthly subscription plans. All paid features are optional — core search functionality remains free.

Free queries

New users receive 3 complimentary AI queries at no cost and with no account required. Free queries are intended for evaluation purposes and are limited to one allocation per user. Annlex reserves the right to modify the number of free queries or discontinue this offering at any time.

Free trial

Subscription plans include a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. A valid payment method is required to begin a trial. You will not be charged during the trial period. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan and your payment method will be charged at the applicable monthly rate. You may cancel at any time during the trial period at no cost.

Credit packs (10/100)

Credit packs are one-time purchases that provide a fixed number of AI queries. Credits are applied to your account upon successful payment and do not expire. Credits are non-transferable and may only be used by the account holder who purchased them. Annlex reserves the right to modify credit pack pricing and query allocations for future purchases; existing purchased credits will not be affected by price changes.

Subscription plans

Subscription plans provide a monthly allocation of AI queries and may include additional features. By subscribing, you agree to the following:

  • Recurring billing: Subscriptions are billed automatically on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel. Your payment method will be charged at the beginning of each billing cycle.
  • Auto-renewal: Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current rate unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • Unused queries: Monthly query allocations do not roll over to subsequent billing periods. Unused queries expire at the end of each billing cycle.
  • Price changes: We will provide at least 30 days' written notice (via email to the address associated with your account) before any subscription price increase takes effect. You may cancel before the new price applies.

Payment processing

All payments are processed securely through Stripe. Annlex does not store your credit card number, bank account details, or other sensitive payment information on our servers. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe in accordance with their privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance standards. You are responsible for keeping your payment information current. If a payment fails, we may suspend access to paid features until the payment issue is resolved.

8. Refund policy

Credit pack refunds

If you are unsatisfied with your credit pack purchase, you may request a full refund within 7 days of purchase, provided that no more than 10 queries from the pack have been used. Refund requests after 7 days, or after more than 10 queries have been consumed, will be considered on a case-by-case basis at our discretion.

Subscription refunds

Monthly subscriptions are generally non-refundable. However, we will consider refund requests in the following circumstances:

  • Service outage: If the service was substantially unavailable for an extended period during your billing cycle, you may request a prorated credit or refund for the affected period.
  • Annual plans: If you cancel an annual subscription within the first 30 days, you may request a prorated refund for the unused portion of your plan.
  • Billing errors: If you were charged in error (duplicate charges, incorrect amount, charges after cancellation), we will issue a full refund for the erroneous charge promptly upon verification.

How to request a refund

To request a refund, contact [email protected] with your account email and a brief description of the issue. We aim to respond to all refund requests within 3 business days. Approved refunds will be processed to the original payment method within 5–10 business days, depending on your financial institution.

Account termination and purchased credits

If we terminate your account for violation of these terms, purchased credits and any remaining subscription period are forfeited and non-refundable. If Annlex discontinues the service entirely, we will provide at least 30 days' notice and issue prorated refunds for any active subscription periods and refunds for unused credit pack balances exceeding 20 queries.

9. Dispute resolution

Informal resolution

Before initiating any formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will make good-faith efforts to address your concern within 15 business days of receiving your written notice. Most billing and service issues can be resolved quickly through direct communication.

Binding arbitration

If we are unable to resolve a dispute informally within 30 days, either party may elect to resolve the dispute through binding arbitration rather than in court, except that either party may bring claims in small claims court if the claims qualify. Arbitration shall be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, and shall take place in Charleston, South Carolina, or at a mutually agreed-upon location.

The arbitrator's decision shall be final and binding, and judgment on the award may be entered in any court of competent jurisdiction. Each party shall bear its own costs and attorney's fees, unless the arbitrator determines otherwise.

Class action waiver

You agree that any dispute resolution proceedings will be conducted only on an individual basis and not in a class, consolidated, or representative action. If, for any reason, a claim proceeds in court rather than through arbitration, both parties waive any right to a jury trial.

Billing disputes with your bank

If you believe a charge is unauthorized or incorrect, please contact us at [email protected] before initiating a chargeback with your bank or credit card company. We are committed to resolving billing issues promptly and can typically process corrections faster than the chargeback process. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us may result in suspension of your account pending resolution.

10. Privacy policy

Your Privacy Matters: We are committed to protecting your privacy while providing transparent legal research capabilities. This section explains how we handle your data.

What information we collect

We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with our platform. This helps us improve the service and identify technical issues. Analytics data includes:

  • Pages visited and features used
  • General usage patterns (session duration, navigation flow)
  • Approximate location (city/country level only)
  • Device type and browser information
  • Referring websites
  • Account and billing information (email, subscription status, query usage counts)

Accounts and chat history

Creating an Annlex account requires an email address. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe processes payment and shares your subscription status with us — we do not see or store your card details.

By default, Annlex saves your research conversations — the questions you ask and the answers you receive — to our own servers, so you can return to past research later. You can turn this off at any time using the "Save history" toggle next to the chat input, and you can permanently delete any saved conversation at any time — deletion is immediate and irreversible, not a soft "hide from view."

Conversations saved by registered accounts, whether or not you've purchased a plan, are kept for up to one year and then automatically deleted. We do not save conversation history for anyone using Annlex without an account.

We do not use your saved conversations to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's, and we do not share them with third parties except as required to operate the service (e.g., our server infrastructure provider) or where the law requires it.

How your queries are handled by Anthropic

Research queries are transmitted to Anthropic's Claude API to generate AI-powered responses. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models, under their commercial API terms.

Annlex is not currently an Anthropic enterprise customer, so Zero Data Retention (ZDR) — an arrangement under which Anthropic would not retain query data at all after generating a response — is not yet active for our account. Under the standard API terms that currently apply to us, Anthropic may retain query data for a limited period, as described in their API and Data Retention policy. Activating ZDR is on our roadmap; we will update this page when it takes effect.

What we DO NOT collect or track

  • ✓ Payment card details: Stripe handles all payment processing directly — we never see or store your card number
  • ✓ Advertising or tracking cookies: We don't use them, and we don't build advertising profiles
  • ✓ IP addresses: IP anonymization is enabled

Like most websites, we use standard web analytics and search-visibility tools to understand overall traffic and how people find Annlex. This kind of aggregate, tool-level data is separate from your personal account and is not the same as the chat history feature described above — chat history is tied to your account, visible to you, and fully within your control to disable or delete at any time.

How we use analytics data

Analytics data helps us:

  • Identify which features are most valuable to users
  • Detect and fix technical problems
  • Understand general usage patterns to guide development priorities
  • Measure system performance and reliability

We do NOT use analytics data for advertising, remarketing, or to build user profiles.

Third-party data sharing

Data is processed by the following third parties:

  • Google Analytics: Subject to Google's privacy policy
  • Anthropic (Claude AI): AI queries are processed by Anthropic's API under commercial terms. Anthropic does not use API data to train its models. Query content may be retained by Anthropic for up to 30 days for abuse detection purposes, then automatically deleted. If a query triggers Anthropic's automated safety systems, related data may be retained longer to enforce their usage policy. Annlex does not store the text of your Annlex Chat queries or conversations in any database. Server access logs used for troubleshooting capture only request metadata (endpoint, timestamp, response code) and do not contain message content. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
  • Stripe: Payment processing is handled by Stripe, subject to their privacy policy. We do not store credit card numbers or bank account details.

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties.

You have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Preference cookies: Remember your opt-out choice and other site preferences.
